Prevalence and pattern of sleep disorders in childhood

Background: Sleep disorders are very common in the population of children, with prevalence rates ranging from 25-40%, and they often persistent. The aetiology sleep problems is complicated depend on many varied factors. Psychological factors concerning family life general state health have a significant impact children. Methods: A hospital based descriptive study was carried out among 1024 children visiting paediatric outpatient departments Madras medical college, Chennai Al-Ameen college hospital, Vijayapura over period 1 year March 2022 to 2023. An appropriate questionnaire formulated that had be filled by parents those interviewed assessed using statistical methods. Results: Out 1164 questionnaires, (88.97%) were completely returned. 497 (48.54%) boys 527 (51.46%) girls included this study. Of 621 (60.64%) no related problems. 403 (39.36%) one or more problem, which 211 (52.36%) 192 (47.64%) girls. Male commonly affected there statistically difference at 5% level males females having (p<0.05). Conclusions: Most studied only outnumbered females. predominantly found age group 7-10 years most disorder nocturnal enuresis. also showed walking usually associated another disorder.
